For my Narrative Project, I had to write about a moment in my life where I made a negative decision and it affected me in a negative way. To guide me on a path through this project, I wrote multiple blog posts to help my writing process.
For my narrative project, I chose to write about a moment that had a negative impact on my life from that day on. To help me get there, I worked on blog posts to help me develop my writing further and further.
In my blog post: Composing a Present Scene, I read What is Creative Nonfiction? (Lee Gutkind), Making Scenes in Memoir (Lee Martin) and My Name is Margaret (Maya Angelou). These readings taught me how to compose and write scenes. I didn't choose this prompt for my narrative since I didn't make a negative decision during it.
Next, I wrote Composing a Present Scene with Dialogue and Symbolism, I added dialogue which helped enhance my writing. I wrote about a typical day at my mom's house dealing with my nieces. I wasn't able to incorporate symbolism, but I would like to try and incorporate it in my narrative project.
I listened to a podcast What You Don't Know (Lulu Wang) to help me write my blog post: Composing a Past Scene. I entered a new dimension of my writing. I decided to write about a tragic story which I decided to turn into my narrative project. I wrote about an emotional story for me which I think helped me write a detailed and powerful story.
In class, I listened to my story being read which gave me an opportunity to her the story aloud and see if it flowed well. I also got feedback from fellow classmates which helped me in revising my narrative project. This is the revised version of Composing a Past Scene: Part Two. I am hoping to develop the story more as I write the narrative project.
In the second draft of my narrative project, I explored counterfactuals to see an alternate ending in my story. I also switched the tense from past to present and changed the point of view from first to third. To learn more about this draft, check out my vlog.
For my final draft, I decided to combine the counterfactual ending with the real story. I wanted to try something different rather than telling the true plot of the story. I incorporated the counterfactual as a thought in my mind to make it flow with the rest of the story. I liked adding some creativity into my story to grab the readers attention.
